Easter this week and I was delighted to have the opportunity to review a delicious Easter gift bag of authentic hand baked treats from Lottie Shaw’s, a family company based in this fantastic food county of Yorkshire. This small craft bakery is tucked away in the back of Elland, West Yorkshire.
Lottie Shaw’s family have baked seriously good biscuits and cakes in Yorkshire for over 100 years and their recipes passed down through the generations. The range of yummy products are now packaged in sustainable artisan packaging with raffia and luggage ticket labels and mine arrived in this useful jute bag.
So with a large pot of tea to hand, I started sampling! And a perfect start was the Parkin.
You know if a product has won the Best Bakery Product 2013/2014 and Supreme Product in the Deliciously Yorkshire Award then you are in for a treat really don’t you.
The taste of treacle was lovely and it had a nice stickiness to it, really soft, had that homemade taste, and was really easy to cut. The label says to serve on a summer’s day with strawberries and cream, or on a winter’s day with stewed fruit and hot custard. I nibbled it as it was – seriously good.
Next to try were the seriously good all butter shortbread biscuits. What more can I say. Amazing melt in your mouth moments.
Next up was Chocolate Chip Flapjack, perfect for sharing. Baked with rolled oats and packed with chocolate chips which just melts in your mouth.
One second I got the taste of the oats and a nice, rich buttery taste, and then the sweetness of the chocolate hit me.
Seriously good luxury butter fudge, and a Happy Easter decorated slab of Millionaire Shortbread which is a shortbread base with a caramel layer covered in a layer of Belgian chocolate.
