New Year at The Lakeside

My 2015 ended in Cumbria, ending a year of challenges for myself, friends and family. So to spend a few chill out days in an amazing location, with stunning views overlooking the southern tip of Lake Windermere, was an invite I could not refuse.

A peaceful and idyllic place for a New Year unwind. The Lakeside Hotel is that for me. I jump at any chance to go back to the Lakes, my homeland.

The festive house party was just amazing….the staff were ‘genuinely’ friendly, service excellent and high house standards maintained throughout.

Originally a 17th Century coaching house you can feel the history throughout this hotel with its beautiful entrance foyer and large hallways with numerous fires blazing and filled with fresh flowers and plants.

Scented Geranium

Loved all the terracotta Yorkshire flowerpots, and recalling memories of sitting in the snug of the wood panelled bar frequented in my youth!

With its own pool, spa and restaurant together with the incredible views I can completely understand why people don’t want to leave The Lakeside. The views across the lake to the fells are so beautiful and it has an amazing large conservatory. It’s the perfect hotel from which to explore the Lake District.

The Lakeside New Year package was packed with tastefully organised treats beginning with drinks and mince pies on arrival.

Arrival drinks

During New Year’s Eve afternoon, mulled wine, tea, scones and cakes were served on The Teal, a lake steamer,  while cruising for a couple of hours up and then down the length of Windermere, shame it rained though but the staff maintained their smiles and friendly chatter throughout. I think they quite enjoyed it!

A superb dinner was served with music to a live band on New Year’s Eve, followed by fireworks just after midnight.

New Year’s Day started with Cumbrian brunch followed by a guided walk in the afternoon to the Lakeland Motor Museum, where afternoon tea was served in their Café Ambio.

The evening ended with post dinner fun at the Casino, I managed to lose £30k…of toy money!

The following morning it was time to head home, after a drive up Gummers How, the hill opposite the hotel, just for the view.

I have promised myself another visit to The Lakeside before too long with my family who I know will enjoy the spa.

Wishing everyone a loving, happy, healthy and peaceful 2016.
