Birkin Tea Room

Cyclists, fishing ponds and a little tea room, Birkin Tea Room fits the bill, service with a smile and a price list that won’t break the bank.

We were ladies who do afternoon tea for birthday treats.

This quaint little tea room in the village of Birkin, tucked right at the bottom of North Yorkshire, is a great place to stop off for afternoon tea. Serving a good variety of sandwiches, both hot and cold, great coffee and a vast array of scrumptious homemade cakes, plus several specials of the day – it’s the place to be!

Tea Rooms1

Birkin Tea Room were nominated as one of the “Official Team Sky” cafes’ for the recent Tour De Yorkshire Stage 2. They even provide bike racks for the numerous cyclists that visit! A nice hot chocolate must be the perfect way to warm up after a bike ride.

Afternoon tea

Afternoon tea is great value, tiered plates arrive with finger sandwiches and a small quiche, a scone with clotted cream and jam, and topped off with a selection of homemade cakes.

Tea Rooms

The quirky interior, complete with crotcheted blankets, bright cushions, and mismatched pretty crockery, is only small but there is plenty of covered exterior seating overlooking the fish ponds.

Fishing 2

The tea room opens around ten and closes around half three. The pretty wooden cabin is situated at the side of the fishing ponds which are always very busy. A lovely peaceful place to sit in the open air watching people fish.

This little gem, hidden away, is well worth a short drive from the A1 or M62, near Knottingley, provides great value, with staff who are lovely and friendly. So typical of Yorkshire hospitality!
