Mr P’s Curious Tavern

I have been on a Michelin Star journey in Yorkshire for the last year, and have become a bit of a fan of Andrew Pern and his Michelin Star restaurant, The Star Inn at Harome. I am thrilled that The Star Inn has retained its Michelin Star for 2017, so well deserved. I saw Andrew at York Food and Drink festival recently, and then popped into his latest York eatery – Mr P’s Curious Tavern, for lunch. Sitting proudly on Petergate, it’s just a short hop from the Minster, surrounded by designer clothes shops, and I loved my seat in the window facing the street ideal for people watching. If Andrew Pern’s York newest eatery were a novel, I’d want to read it. Mr P’s Curious Tavern conjures up thoughts of the exotic, of mystery and intrigue, and intimacy. Restaurant is not really the right word to describe Mr P’s. A Tavern suits it perfectly, with its connotations of an old-fashioned drinking den where food is also served. October Food Round Up

Every month at Grey Goose Ltd is a busy one, and the very last week of October was no exception. This was one long seven day foodie experience shared with the dearest of friends. And in the middle of the week was the delight of an unexpected stay at the Nuffield hospital, a not too good an excuse to sample their food. The week started with a weekend sampling some long awaited delights of York. Firstly, a visit to The Star Inn The City which opened in 2013 on the bank of the River Ouse. They serve simple Yorkshire cooking with a taste of the countryside, and once again I was wowed by the masterpiece created by Andrew Pern. Dinner was superb and I will tell you more about the food and the friendly hospitality soon. Another spot on my much wanted to try places was afternoon tea at the Grand hotel. This sophisticated Edwardian hotel is set in the former headquarters of the North Eastern Railway, and was built in 1906 opposite the city …
